“Road to nowhere”
Just a little east from Skaftafell, heavy storms and rain was following me. Just 5 minutes time to make a picture on the borderline between rain and sun, before it started pouring down. Than a jump into the car for about 1 km to shoot the next couple of photo's. I had the feeling being some kind of a storm chaser. I also have a similar one in B&W square format.

A few km's to the east from Skaftafell National Park, you'll find the Svínafell area. Also the Svínafelljokull (glacier) is part of this area. The Svínfellings (or Svínfellingar) were a family clan in the medieval Icelandic Commonwealth. They ruled the Eastfjords of Iceland. Their forefather was Flosi, one of the Burners of Njal. Their name is derived from the clan's Svínafell homestead in Öræfi. In the back of this photo, you can see the Skaftafell National Park on the right and the Lomagnupur mountain on the left.

The Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus) is a large Northern Hemisphere swan. It is the Eurasian counterpart of the North American Trumpeter Swan. I shot this one at the east-coast of Iceland. As far as my eyes could reach, i saw more than twohundred swans, until they disappear in the fog.

Eiders are large seaducks in the genus Somateria. Steller's Eider, despite its name, is in a different genus. The three extant species all breed in the cooler latitudes of the Northern hemisphere. The down feathers of eider ducks, and some other ducks and geese, are used to fill pillows and quilts, they have given the name to the type of quilt known as an eiderdown.

Dettifoss is a waterfall in Jökulsárgljúfur National Park of Northeast Iceland, not far from Mývatn. It is situated on the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river, which flows from the Vatnajökull glacier and collects water from a large area in Northeast Iceland. The falls are 100 m wide and have a drop of 44 m down to the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon. It is the largest waterfall in Europe in terms of volume discharge, having an average water flow of 200 m3/s.
The waterfall can only be reached by a rough road.
