Hi, I am Dennis Wils, born in 1977 and raised in the small village of Austerlitz. I currently live in Alphen aan den rijn, where I work as a visual artist from my studio. I make art (wall art and sculptures), design/furniture (sofas, tables, chairs, etc.) and accessories (clocks, vases, lamps, etc.). Often there is a personal story behind my works and they are a 'reminder' to myself. If you would like to know more about this, I invite you to take a look at www.denniswils.nl.
On Werk aan de muur you will find reproductions of my wall art work. These are photos of the originals. They have been slightly edited to bring them close to the original and stand out beautifully. In addition, it is a place for my digitally created work.
In my work, I use self-appointed 'abstract realism'. Here, I transform a common image from everyday reality into an abstract work, in which there is more to see. Photography and digital image processing play an important role here. Besides woodworking, but I frequently use painting and screen-printing techniques.
The work often has its origin in a story or insight from the sometimes raw and mysterious reality. This translates into abstract work, with texture and layers and street art influences. In addition, it is not too clean and has dark elements. At the same time, it is powerful, hopeful and fresh. This is reflected in the full, cheerful, contrasting colours and light in the work; often combined with powerful black.
