Lucy Besson
Over Lucy Besson
Lucy Besson (born 1959, Novokuznetsk, Russia) is a Dutch-based artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, photography, video, and digital media. Educated at the Regional Art Academy of Kemerovo and the Stroganov Academy in Moscow, she began her career in textile design before relocating to the Netherlands in 1991. Deeply inspired by nature and the interplay between the visible and the invisible, she creates multilayered visual narratives shaped by classical training and a lifelong fascination with human and natural phenomena. Her photographic method is rooted in spontaneous daily observation: she captures unexpected moments in the environment, later organizing and analyzing the material until new insights emerge. These discoveries often form the basis for exhibitions, where she engages in dialogue with audiences. Besson’s work is shown regularly in the Netherlands and internationally.
