From September 7 - 20 2009 the 19 historic windmills in Kinderdijk (The Netherlands), which are listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, were spectacularly lit by Philips and Technische Unie using colorful and energy efficient LED lighting.
To properly do justice to these symbols of Dutch history, each windmill was lit with different LED lighting in its own unique way, thereby creating contrasting atmospheres. The official opening of the LED lit mills will be on September 7th at 21.30 on the Kinderdijk.
Kinderdijk is the only place in the world where you'll find the largest concentration of operational windmills. There are nineteen windmills at Kinderdijk, and they were built between the years of 1500 and 1740. All specimens are well-preserved, and in 1997, the windmills were put on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
